Condizione Lettura
Filtro pulito 12 PSI a 1.800 RPM

Pressione alta + flusso basso sospetta restrizione o media sporco
Pressione normale + torbida sospetta circolazione, carico o scarsa copertura di ritorno

Filter Pressure Gauge Zones

Clean
Backwash
Danger
Clean

Normal operating range. Record your clean baseline at a known pump speed.

Needs Backwash

Pressure is 8-10 PSI above clean baseline. Time to backwash or clean the filter media.

Danger / Blocked

Pressure is well above normal. Stop the pump and inspect the filter, plumbing, and return path.

Multiport Valve Positions

Filter

Normal filtration. Water flows through filter media.

Backwash

Reverse flow through filter. Flushes debris to waste.

Rinse

Used after backwash to settle media before filtering.

Waste

Bypasses filter. Used for draining or vacuuming debris.

Recirculate

Water bypasses filter. Used for chemical circulation.

Closed

Blocks all flow. Do not run pump in this position.

Identify Your Filter Type

Sand
  • Large round or dome tank
  • Side or top-mount valve
  • Sand media inside
Cartridge
  • Cylindrical tank with clamp band
  • Pleated cartridge elements inside
  • No backwash port
D.E.
  • Manifold with internal grids
  • Bump handle or backwash port
  • D.E. powder added after backwash

Filtration and Circulation

Cloudy water often starts with flow, filter condition, or dirty media long before it becomes a chemistry emergency.

Use this when
  • Cloudy water often starts with flow, filter condition, or dirty media long before it becomes a chemistry emergency.
You'll need
  • Clean filter pressure and pump RPM
  • Current filter pressure
  • Filter type and model family
Stop and escalate if
  • Do not open a filter tank, crack a clamp band, or break into a pressure vessel unless the exact manual supports it.
  • Do not treat DE-to-sand as universal manufacturer guidance.
FAI QUESTO PER PRIMO

Clean or backwash the filter completely, then record the clean pressure and pump speed. A filter is only diagnosable when you know its clean baseline.

Non fare
  • Do not open a filter tank until trapped pressure is fully relieved
  • Do not treat sand, cartridge, and DE filters as interchangeable service procedures
  • Do not chase chemistry while the valve path is bypassing or starving the filter
  • Do not use generic PSI targets instead of your system's clean baseline

1

Document your clean baseline

A filter only becomes diagnosable once you know what normal looks like.

2

Match maintenance to filter type

Sand, cartridge, and DE filters behave differently and should not be treated as interchangeable.

Warnings
  • Do not open a filter tank, crack a clamp band, or break into a pressure vessel unless the exact manual supports it.
3

Separate pressure rise, low flow, air, and bypass

The pressure gauge is useful only when you know which side of the system is misbehaving.

4

When cloudy water is mechanical

The filter can only catch what the circulation system presents to it.

5

Stop when the problem is not the filter

If pressure, flow, or clarity points elsewhere, branch before cleaning the same part repeatedly.

6

Using DE carefully

DE can sharpen filtration performance, but it is not a casual powder to throw around.

Warnings
  • Do not treat DE-to-sand as universal manufacturer guidance.
7

Circulation tuning

The goal is even circulation and enough filtration time for the conditions, not a fixed daily runtime myth.

Manufacturer manuals and model-family index

Use the family index before you assume backwash, cartridge-cleaning, or clamp procedures are interchangeable.

Owner vs pro boundaries

Use the boundary guide when the filter work crosses into pressure-vessel teardown, clamp bands, live electrical, or anything the manual says is service-only.

Manual library

Browse the manual library when you want the source documents rather than chasing vendor links.

Filter service deep dive

Use the deeper filter-service workflow when cartridge sealing, D.E. recharging, sand channeling, or tank teardown is the actual problem.

Vacuuming and waste workflows

Use the cleanup workflow when heavy debris needs to go through the waste line instead of the filter.

Emergency troubleshooting

Use the fault guide when the circulation problem is really a power, pump, or startup failure.
